The first talks in our new UNEchurch series Apologetics: But what about ...? are now available. Click on the link for Apologetics: But what about ...? at left, and don't miss this fascinating series that will help you to explain Christianity to your family, friends and colleagues.

Click on the link for "Muhima in May" at left. Further talks by Bishop Muhima will be uploaded during May.

The first two talks in the new series "Doing Faith", practical advice about living the Christian life based on the Epistle of James, have been uploaded. Click on the link for "Doing Faith: James" at left. Visit again during May, June and July for further talks in this series.

  • All new series of talks will be displayed in tabular form, to better manage the new features and the increased amount of information now published. Older series will be revised, and the new features added, as time permits.
  • The series "Know I am the LORD!", on the challenging book of Ezekiel is now complete. Click on the link for Know I am the Lord at left for an example of the new and changed features described above.

A new series of talks, "Know I am the LORD!", on the challenging book of Ezekiel is being uploaded during February to April 2009. Click on the link for Know I am the Lord at left. Visit again over the next few weeks for more talks in this series.

29 January 2009

An expansive new series of talks, "The Battle between Good and Evil", will be added to St Marks Talks during 2009. These talks, based on the Gospel of Matthew, will be arranged into a number of sections to highlight stages in the advance of God's Kingdom into our world: the Invasion; the Counter-attack; the Training; the Final Battle. These sections will be part of the teaching program at either Sat@6 and AMchurch, or UNEchurch, so you may need to download some talks to hear the whole series, depending on which service(s) you attend. Click on the link for The War between Good and Evil at left to access this series, and visit often during the year for all the talks in this series as they progressively become available.

17 January 2009

A new feature has been added to this site: from now on, each new talk will have a link to the BibleGateway site, to display the text for the talk in a new window. This way, if you are listening to a talk on a computer connected to the Internet, you can have the text in front of you. St Marks Chapel uses the English Standard Version (ESV) of the Bible, so this version will be displayed. Links to the text for older talks will be added as time permits.

This talk complements our other series on the Gospel of John: "Signs of the Times", covering John 2 - 11, and "Lasting Last Words", covering John 13 - 21. Click on the link for "The Practical Doctrine of the Trinity", "Signs of the Times" and "Lasting Last Words" at left. Visit again next year for further series of talks.

How to access resources

To listen to a talk online, click the talk title. To play a talk online, you will need an mp3 player program installed on your computer, such as iTunes, RealPlayer or Windows Media Player. Depending on the browser you are using, and the default mp3 player on your computer, the talk may begin playing automatically while it is still downloading (for example, Mozilla Firefox with iTunes/QuickTime), or may require you to select the option to open the file, and then may download fully before beginning to play (for example, Microsoft Internet Explorer with RealPlayer or Windows Media Player). The latter may take several minutes before playing, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

To open a Bible reference, click the link; it will open in a new window. You can use the navigation buttons above the text to view the whole chapter, or to go to the previous or the next chapter.

To open the sermon outline for a talk, or the study notes for a series (where these are available), click the link, then select the option to open the file. These files are in either Microsoft Word 97-2003 Document format (.doc), or Portable Document File format (.pdf). To read these files you will need to have Microsoft Word or a Word Reader, or a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader, installed on your computer.

To download a talk as an mp3 file, or a sermon outline for a talk, or the study notes for a series, right click the link (PC) or hold control while clicking on the link (MAC), then select the option to save/download the file to your computer.

Talks are published as mp3 sound files, typically between 5 Mb and 10 Mb. If you have a dial-up Internet connection, these files could take 30 - 60 minutes to download. You may prefer to obtain the talks on CD-ROM, at very low cost, by contacting St Marks Office.

Most talks are exported at the 32 bit rate (older talks may vary) to provide quality speech reproduction at reasonable file size. Longer talks may be exported at the 24 or 16 bit rate to keep them under 10 Mb for fast downloading. If you require higher or lower fidelity for any talk, contact St Marks Office.

Recently uploaded talks feature links to the relevant Bible text at the Bible Gateway web site (used with permission), along with sermon outlines where available. Study notes for personal or group use are available for some series of talks. These features will be added to earlier series where they are available and as time permits.
